The best software to recover lost data from your smartphone
Here are the best software to recover deleted data from Android and iPhone smartphones
Our mobile phone is now the hard disk of our life: it contains photos, videos, messages, contacts, traces of everything we do on the Web and many other data that are not only “sensitive”, but are also increasingly important. Data that needs to be protected, but which we sometimes delete by mistake or are damaged by a hardware or software problem on the device.
Unfortunately, such problems are possible on both the Android and iOS platforms and, to tell the truth, from this point of view there is not much difference between the two worlds: the loss of data on the smartphone, although it is a rare event, can happen on both types of phones. In the case of iPhones, for example, it is possible to lose data due to a jailbreak gone wrong. Fortunately, however, there is a fair number of software that have the purpose of recovering lost data , or at least part of it. Here’s how to choose the one that’s right for us.
Lost data recovery on your smartphone: how it works
Let’s start by saying that all the software used to recover lost data on a smartphone works more or less in the same way: they must be installed on a PC or Mac and access the storage memory of the smartphone connected to it, looking for traces. of the deleted data.
On the memories of mobile devices, in fact, the deleted files actually remain for a long time : until the same memory cells are used to store new data. For this reason, the hopes of recovering lost files are high enough if the memory of the device is only partially occupied, while the hopes of recovering lost files are low as it is filled.
The main differences between one data recovery app and the other are mainly in the ease of use, in the execution speed and in the availability for both platforms (Android and iOS) or just one of the two. And, of course, in the price of the app which unfortunately is never low.
EaseUS MobiSaver
EaseUS MobiSaver is compatible with PCs with Windows XP and is very simple to use: just connect the phone to the computer and choose the folder on the computer where to transfer the files recovered from the phone.
It offers a preview of the found files, so we only choose the files that really interest us. The files will then be recovered by EaseUS MobiSaver in a reasonable time. EaseUS MobiSaver manages to recover documents, SMS, music, contacts, notes, videos and a bit of all types of files and is able to export contacts in CSV, HTML and VCF formats.
This software, as well as its competitors, is not cheap: the version to recover files from an Android device, for personal use, costs $39.95 while the one for iPhone costs $59.99.
Jihosoft Phone Recovery
Jihosoft Phone Recovery is available for both Android and iOS. The first version can recover deleted contacts, messages, photos, videos, audios, chats, call logs and documents. According to the developer, Jihosoft Phone Recovery is compatible with over 6,000 Android devices, including phones and tablets, as long as they have at least Android 2.3 as an operating system.
Even on the iPhone Jihosoft Phone Recovery manages to recover the same types of files, as well as Safari data, reminders, notes and calendar events, and is compatible with devices equipped with at least iOS 5 (therefore also the old iPad and iPod touch, Nano, Shuffle, Mini and Classic).
Again, the price to pay is not low: $49.95 for the Android version and $59 for the iOS version.
MyJad Android Data Recovery
As the name implies, MyJad Android Data Recovery is only available for Android and not iOS as well. It offers the preview function, but it behaves a little differently than other smartphone data recovery software.
In practice, it offers two options at startup: “Scan contacts, call history and messages ” and ” Scan photos, videos or other files “, but it is still possible to scan all the contents of the device memory in one go.
MyJad Android Data Recovery is able to recover photos in PNG, JPG, GIF or BMP format, audio and video in MP3, WMV, MP4, MOV, AVI, 3GP, 3G2 and SWF format and of course the messages and contacts (which are saved from the application in a .TXT file).
Among the data recovery apps for Android, MyJad Android Data Recovery is one of the most expensive: it costs $49.95.
Stellar Data Recovery
Stellar Data Recovery is only available for iOS (in the past also for Android, but now the app has been removed from the Stellar website) and is very powerful: it is able to recover chat messages from the main instant messaging services, Safari bookmarks, call history, contacts, photos, videos, calendar events and other files.
It works on most devices with iOS and, which is rare for an app of this price, can also perform a deep scan based solely on a file’s signature and can even recover data from encrypted iCloud and iTunes backup files .
The price is the real surprise: $ 39.99, the cheapest among the data recovery software for iOS devices.
Wondershare dr.fone
Wondershare was the first software house to publish an application for data recovery from smartphones, both Android and iOS, and is still a point of reference in this sector today. Dr. Fone works on both Windows (at least XP) and Mac (at least macOS 10.8) and has the classic three-step operation: scan, preview, recovery.
The Android version (from Android 2.1 onwards) is compatible with over 6,000 devices and, according to the manufacturer, can recover all types of files. The one for iOS is similar, but can also recover files on iTunes and iCloud accounts.
Dr.fone for iOS can be run to recover lost data on iPhone 4 or later, all types of iPad and iPod touch 4 and 5. Lost data can be restored directly to the device.
Dr.fone has only one flaw, the price: $49.95 for Android and $69.95 for iOS.
